Kareena Kapoor Khan’s latest film, The Buckingham Murders, collected Rs 1.15 crore nett and around Rs 1.62 crore gross in India on its first day at the box office. The opening remained quite dismal despite the film receiving good reviews from all over. Directed by Hansal Mehta, the film features Kareena as a cop based in the UK who solves a series of serial murders in the Buckingham area, after losing her own son.
The Buckingham Murders has been appreciated for its crisp story and Kareena’s performance. The film’s collection is expected to grow considering it has largely received positive word-of-mouth on social media.
Also starring Ranveer Brar, Rukku Nahar and Ash Tandon among many British actors, it is looking at a smooth run at the ticket window with no other new film releasing this week. The crime thriller, however, could see slight competition from Tumbbad, which has been re-released in theatres amid fantastic word-of-mouth.
The Buckingham Murders is Kareena’s debut production, and she has reportedly given her all to both the performance and the making of the film. It should be noted that the actor has done away with her glamorous image in the film and appears almost without makeup in most of the scenes.
IndiaToday.in gave the film four stars in its review, highlighting how this is certainly a milestone in Kareena’s acting career. “The performances stand out. Kareena Kapoor is pitch perfect as Jass, a grieving mother, who doesn’t let this aspect of hers diminish her work efficiency, but rather makes it her strength. She has been reinventing herself, with Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan portraying her in a completely different light. In The Buckingham Murders, she takes it one notch higher and proves her range as an actor,” a part of the review read.
The Buckingham Murders is expected to see a rise in its collection during Saturday and Sunday.
